Antigua, Lesser Antilles

“The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination, and brings eternal joy to the soul” Wyland

I could not find better words to describe my short visit to the island nation of Antigua (and Barbuda) than those of Wyland (whomever he/she may be). There is always something endearing about visiting a place where when you depart the airplane directly onto the tarmac you can feel the warm, salty air on your skin. Immediately, your mind and body know that you are in a place where you can rest, unwind, and just enjoy being. The island of Antigua is part of what is known as the lesser Antillies or the leeward islands of the Caribbean. It also has a sister island, so a lot of times when people are talking about Antigua they will also include Barbuda. Antigua is known for its 95 miles of coastline and 365 beaches - those are some numbers that are pretty hard to beat. It is also a pretty easy flight from any major hub.

I had the pleasure of staying at Blue Waters Resort & Spa, an intimate resort with a multitude of accommodation options. Whether you are traveling solo, on a romantic getaway, or even a multi-generational family vacation, they will have the perfect place for you to relax and rejuvenate the soul. For families, they have multiple options for you to choose from but what I loved the most (as a mother of two little boys) is the fabulous kids club they offer and the teen space directly above. Want to go out to a romantic dinner with the spouse and don’t want to take the kiddos? No problem, they resort even offers babysitters who are all CPR/1st Aid trained for an extremely reasonable price.

Their dining experience is next level offering multiple restaurants, bars, and room service. Every morning I was able to enjoy whatever the fresh pressed juice of the day was along with a plethora of island or classic breakfast options. Dinner was always delicious with an array of food options, delicious mixed drinks, and a beyond par wine menu. To make the ambiance even more relaxing the resort offers live entertainment.

If you are wanting to lounge and relax (in other words to exert a little energy as possible) you can spend the day at one of the pools (if your room/villa doesn’t have its own) or on the beach. They have food and beverage service at every location and even servers who will cater to your need to be as lazy as possible. Their spa is another beautiful space where you can unwind with a massage, body treatment or facial. I had ethereal massage while there and would highly recommend visiting!

If you can only take so much laying around, no worries, there are lots of options for you too! The resort offers catamarans, snorkel gear and much more at no extra cost. If you are feeling the need for a little more speed, they have jet skis for rent. We had the luxury of taking their new boat to an uninhabited island/bird sanctuary. It was the perfect cap to the stay before heading back to reality.
